As a beginner, the Cotman student grade colours were recommended by my instructor. I enjoy using them...but I like Daniel Smith a liitle more; they feel smoother to spread around.

I have always been very happy with the Windsor Newton products. True to colour and easily mixed. Cobalt Blue, specifically, is now available as an (AP) Approved Product rating, meaning that there isn’t any heavy metals in this paint.

I have been using Cotman watercolours for about 10 years now as their price line fits my budget. I have used a few other brands occasionally and I really don't find a big difference in the quality of colour, though I do not consider myself an expert. I like the results I get and they have a good colour selection.
