Want some milk or honey with that tea? Urban Sketcher Marc Taro Holmes uses a "tea" wash over his original line sketch (light, very transparent watercolour); follows it up with a "milk" wash (more concentrated paint) and ends with touches of "honey" (sticky, intense paint layers for the darkest darks.)

This book provides both instruction and inspiration for using the "Tea, Milk, Honey" analogy to guide you while re-creating your urban environment on-site.

  • 15 step-by-step demonstrations of techniques for creating expressive works in pencil, pen and ink, and watercolour
  • Lots of great tips from this expert on how to achieve a good balance of accuracy, speed and spontaneity
  • The author has sound advice on how to cope with kibbitzers and onlookers, how to choose subjects, how to capture motion
  • Follow the exercises and creative prompts to improve essential skills and diversify your approach
